I moved from Canada to Oregon as a teen, graduated from Oregon Health & Sciences University, and spent my career in laboratory diagnostics development and sales. Travel became part of my rhythm — from the Western U.S. to national meetings and award trips, I was always on the move. However, my body suffered for it and in my retirement, I am committed to wellness and travel for pleasure! Yoga entered my life after an auto accident in 1996, and it’s been a source of healing, balance, and clarity ever since. I’m a true believer in its ability to support both body and mind. I am pursuing my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Alignment Based Yoga in order to safely support others in their wellness journeys. When I first visited Belize in 2019, I fell completely in love — with the people, the culture, the nature, the energy. I’ve returned many times, and now, in retirement, I’m living my dream of hosting yoga retreats in the places that inspire me most. Bringing together my love of people, planning, yoga, and travel feels like the perfect next chapter. Creating meaningful, joyful retreat experiences is something that lights me up. I can’t wait to welcome you to Belize and share this beautiful journey with you.

We will take advantage of beautiful locations at or near both resorts

Deepen your practice beside a gentle stream in the rainforest.

As the sun rises, listen to the waves and birdsong as you awaken your body and spirit.

Cool breezes, lapping waves and a gentle sunset make for a calming yoga session.

An afternoon yoga followed by relaxation in the sea and a sunset dinner in this magical location.
Placencia Village sits at the tip of the peninsula and is famous for having the world’s smallest main street — The Sidewalk. It’s lined with colorful shops, cafés, and restaurants full of that unmistakable Caribbean vibe. It’s the perfect place to wander, explore, and pick up your souvenirs. After lunch at your leisure in the village, we’ll meet at the point and take a short launch out to the Placencia Yacht Club — a magical over‑the‑water hideaway. We’ll enjoy an uplifting yoga session, then relax in the calm turquoise waters at the edge of the peninsula. Here we will enjoy a sunset dinner. This is one of the best sunset spots in Placencia, often with a sailboat framing the view. After sunset, we’ll take the launch back to the point and meet the Umaya shuttle for our return to the resort.

Had a great time - made new friends, explored new areas, tried new foods, and came back energized and rejuvenated.
Amazing balance of stay-in, explore, meet 'n greet, and relax by the pool. The Mayan chocolate experience and the trip to the Xunantunich ruins were both epic.

YogaVacays met my expectations. I was totally happy with all the yoga classes and the instructor. I'm not great at yoga, but I loved Lisa's classes ... every single one of them! We had an assortment of attendees from the south and the north. It was a great mix. I really enjoyed the entire experience!

This was my first time traveling solo and I admittedly was kind of nervous! Colleen was a wonderful coordinator and all of us met on a Zoom call before the trip. The shuttle to Umaya Resort was there was waiting for us when we landed in Belize! We were all tired from the flights and the shuttle stopped at a great place for lunch on the drive to the resort.
Every aspect of my vacation was well planned out and I was able to pick excursions ahead of time. I did not think I would make it to early morning yoga, but I was able to most days.
Yoga twice a day was very healing. The yoga instructor was excellent, and I never felt like I would injure myself!
The staff at Umaya was excellent. I felt relaxed and rejuvenated by the end of my stay and sort of did not want to go home. I would highly recommend YogaVacays!

The major languages spoken in Belize include English Spanish and Kriol. Mayan languages are also spoken in certain areas.
English is the official language, taught in schools, so it's easy to enjoy a conversation with a Belizean. You will hear at lot of Kriol which sounds like very fast and abbreviated form of English that all Belizeans (with various native languages) use to communicate with each other.

Each US dollar is worth 2 Belizean dollars. Businesses will accept the US dollar and generally provide change in Belize dollars. There is no need to go to the bank for Belize money before travelling! But be sure to have some cash on you to support the local businesspeople!
